In an effort to not change my facebook profile status 300 times a day, I thought it would be a good idea to create a blog. I hope you will enjoy my stories of living abroad, and feel like you're right here with me!
Day 1-
I arrived this morning after an overnight, 8hr flight from Newark. The girl sitting next to me looked like Lady Gaga, but someone should have told her that even Lady Gaga couldn't get away with revealing THAT much of her bra. She was originally from Estonia, but she spoke like she came from the Valley. The only thing missing was a huge piece of bubble gum....
I am currently staying with Karina and Anders Silverling, their son, Anakin and their dog, Gangster. I "met" Karina through a friend of a friend of a friend on facebook...no lie. I have never met her in person, but she found us a home to rent and offered to allow me to stay with them until I get acquainted with my surroundings. They are currently on vacation, but organized a way for all of their neighbors to help me get into the apartment, turn on the tv, and show me around town, via bicycle, of course! I am so very thankful for their hospitality!
I went to the grocery store on my bike and attempted to pick up a few items. It was extremely overwhelming. Of course everything was in Swedish, and the customers were all doing the exact same thing that I did not understand. I now know that in Sweden you can scan your groceries while you shop, which will then be charged to your credit card, and then you don't have to wait in line. GENIOUS! All we have in the states is that stupid self-checkout which always ends up taking WAY longer.
The cosmetic and bathroom section was essentially identical to the states, but the rest was 100% different. I'm so excited for the day that I feel like a local, and not a mess of a tourist!
The bakery section is so amazing....jam packed with fresh baked breads and pastries. I was in heaven. Just when I thought that was impressive, I turned the corner to the cheese section. Holy crap. I'm probably not going to have a bowel movement for weeks!!! :)
I am very thankful for the Silverlings and their equally hopsitable neighbors! I will probably spend tomorrow sightseeing! I can't wait for Dusty and the pups to move over....
For my first day, it all went pretty smoothly. Day two....here I come!
P.S. I apologize for any misspellings...I just hit the "spell check" button, but b/c I'm in Sweden now, EVERYTHING lit up. Oh jeez.....
